বাংলা ভাষা নিজের প্রাথমিক রচনার পর থেকে বহুবিধ পরিবর্তনের সাক্ষী হয়েছে। সমগ্র পৃথিবীতে মাত্র দুটিই এমন ভাষা আছে, যা সম্পূর্ণ ভাবে নূতন অবতারে সম্মুখে এসেছে। এঁদের মধ্যে একটি হলো ইংরাজি, যা নিজের প্রাচীনরূপ ত্যাগ করে নতুন রূপে আবির্ভূত হয়েছিল ব্রিটিশ উপন্যাসিকদের হাত ধরে। আর দ্বিতীয়টি হলো বাংলা ভাষা।

প্রাথমিক স্তরের বাংলা ভাষাতেও তাবড় তাবড় সাহিত্যিক তাকে উচ্চস্তরে উন্নীত করেছে। এঁদের মধ্যে যেমন বিদ্যাপতি রয়েছেন, তেমনই রয়েছেন ভারতচন্দ্র। চণ্ডীমঙ্গল এই ভাষার মাথায় যেমন তাজ উঠিয়ে দিয়েছিল, তেমনই চৈতন্য চরিতামৃত বাংলা ভাষার শীরকে সুমেরুশিখরের ন্যায় সুউচ্চ করে দেয়। কিন্তু এই সমস্ত সময়কালে সাহিত্যিকরা শিখরে অবস্থান করলেও, সংস্কৃতের থেকে কাব্যধারা ধারণ করার কারণে, সর্বসাধারণকে পাঠকরূপে পরিবর্তিত করতে ব্যর্থ হচ্ছিল বাংলা ভাষা।

আর ঠিক সেই কালেই, ঈশ্বরচন্দ্র বিদ্যাসাগর বাংলা উপন্যাসের, বাংলা ভাষার এবং বাংলা সাহিত্যকে সম্পূর্ণ ভাবে ঘুরিয়ে দাঁড় করিয়ে দিলো। পাঠকের জন্য সহজ করে তুললেন তিনি বাংলা ভাষাকে, ঠিক সেই ভাবে যেই ভাবে প্রাচীন ইংরাজি ভাষার আধুনিকীকরণ করা হয়েছিল। সেই আধুনিকরনকে কেন্দ্র করে, ঋষি বঙ্কিমচন্দ্র, কবিগুরু রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর, আর শরৎচন্দ্র চট্টোপাধ্যায়, তিনজন মিলে বাংলা ভাষায় উপন্যাস কাব্য সহ সম্পূর্ণ সাহিত্যকে এমন উচ্চতায় উন্নীত করে তুললেন যে, সম্পূর্ণ বাঙালি জাতিই সাহিত্যপ্রেমী হয়ে উঠলেন।

সাহিত্য প্রেমের কারণে একে একে বহু শ্রেষ্ঠ উপন্যাস ও সাহিত্যরস প্রদান করতে থাকলেন। সেই রসদত্তাদের মধ্যে যেমন উপেন্দ্রকিশোর রায়চৌধুরী স্থাপিত রয়েছেন, তেমনই উজ্জ্বল নক্ষত্রগুলির মধ্যে শরদিন্দুর সাথে বিভূতিভূষণও রয়েছেন। সামান্য ও অসামান্য সমস্ত সাহিত্যিক মিলে বাংলা ভাষাকে ভারতবর্ষের সর্বাধিক সমৃদ্ধ ভাষায় রূপান্তরিত করতে থাকলেন। তবে এই নক্ষত্রদের তালিকা অসম্পূর্ণই থেকে যায় – ভারতবর্ষের একমাত্র অস্কারের লাইফটাইম এচিভমেন্ট লাভ করা ব্যক্তিত্ব, সত্যজিৎ রায়।

ঔপন্যাসিকের সংখ্যা অগুনতি, বিশেষ করে যখন বাংলাভাষার কথা বলা হয়। মৃষু কৃতান্তিক ঔপন্যাসিক কখনোই নন, তবুও তাঁর লিখনির পালকে বেশ কিছু দুর্লভ উপন্যাস অবস্থান করছে, হয়তো তা বাংলা ভাষার ছত্রছায়ায় থাকার কারণেই সম্ভব হয়েছে।

Bengali Language passed through different phases, after the same has been created. She was initiated long ago, near to 1000 years. The narration of the same started with some of the gems from Vidyapathi and Bharatchandra. The journey of her remained steep among the creators henceforth too with Chandimangal and Chaitanya Charitamrita. However, considering the readers’ point of view, toughness of the language and poetic style of presentation, inherited from Sanskrit, kept general readers little away from the culture of literature.

Therefrom a massive high tide overflowed the language entirely. The tide started from Iswarchandra Vidyasagar and the same was carried to the extreme condition by Rishi Bankim Chandra Chattapadhyay, the mighty Rabindranath Tagore and Sharatchandra Chattapadhyay. Innumerable others, including Bibhutibhusan Bandhyapadhyay, Tarashankar Bandhyapadhyay was carried high by Saradindu Bandhyapadhyay, Upendra Kishore Roy Choudhury.

Innumerable others carried the completely revised version of Bengali language to the next level, but when we talk about Bengali philosophy, we cannot count those gem of authors, but one gem must have to be counted in the list and he is the only lifetime Oscar winner from India, Mr Satyajit Ray.

Collecting all, the number of novels and the quality of the novels makes Bengali the uncompleted richest language of entire India, leaving all other languages far behind. Contributors to the same has been many with some remarkable gems. Mrishu Kritantik, although not a specialist Novelist, yet added some gems to the long list of Bengali Novels.
