রহস্য গল্প সম্বন্ধে বলতে গেলে, প্রথম যেই নাম মনে আসে, তা হলো সার্লক হোমস। স্যার আরথার কোনান ডয়েলের এই অসম্ভব কলাসৃষ্টিকে অত্যন্ত নিকট ভাবে অনুসরণ করে আরো এক জনপ্রিয় রহস্য গল্প রচনা, আগাধা ক্রিস্টি। ইনারা দুইজন ছাড়াও আরো অনেক লেখক রয়েছেন যারা রহস্য গল্প ধারাকে জনপ্রিয় করে তোলেন, যদিও তাদের একটিও সার্লক হোমস বা আগাথা ক্রিস্টির ন্যায় তেমন জনপ্রিয়তা লাভ করেনি।

অন্যদিকে ভারতীয় বাতাবরণে, রহস্য গল্প তেমন জনপ্রিয়তা লাভ করেনি, আর এর বিশেষ কারণ এই যে হিন্দি থেকে ভারতের প্রাচীনতম ভাষা তামিলেও রহস্য গল্প নিয়ে কনো কাজই হয়নি। তবে এই ধারাতে ভারতকে যে বিশ্বদরবারে স্থিত রেখেছে তা হলো সেই ভারতীয় ভাষা, যাতে সর্বাধিক সাহিত্য চর্চা হয়েছে, অর্থাৎ বাংলা ভাষা।

বাংলা ভাষায় রহস্য গল্পের উপর কাজ শুরু হয় ব্যোমকেশ বক্সির সিরিজ দিয়ে। তবে ভারতীয় যেকোনো ভাষাতে রহস্য গল্প সমূহের ক্ষেত্রে যিনি সম্রাট, তিনি হলেন ভারতের অস্কারের মঞ্চে একমাত্র লাইফটাইম এচিভমেন্ট বিজেতা মহান সত্যজিৎ রায়ের ফেলুদা সিরিজ। এই দুই মহারথী ছাড়াও, বাংলা ভাষাতে রহস্য গল্পের বিস্তার সমানেই হতে থাকে। ঘনাদা, সবর, কাকাবাবু, গোগল এঁরা ভারতবর্ষের রহস্য গল্প বায়ুমণ্ডলের বড় বড় নক্ষত্র হয়ে অবস্থান করতে থাকে।

When you talk about Detective stories, the first name that comes to our mind is Sherlock Homes. The mighty creation from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is closely followed by the series of Agatha Christie. There are many to be named after that, but none of them formed impression of any sort of remarkable series like that of Sherlock Homes or Agatha Christie.

New series are also coming up promising to make the list longer.
